Just Another Day Trying To Fly
  • 6 AM The alarm goes off.
  • 6: 30 I head to the airport.
  • 7:30 I board an AirTran flight bound for NYC.
  • 8:00 At departure time, pilot says we have a two hour delay, due to “weather”.
  • 8:10 We are asked to deplane and remove our items.
  • 8:17 I asked for a refund (and got it) because I was going to be at minimum 2 hours late, per AirTran.
  • 8:40 As I departed the airport, TripIt sends me a text indicating my flight will board at 8:50 (not two hours late, just 50 minutes late).
  • Too late. Account refunded and not enough time to return to the flight.

So who is to blame? The NYC tower? The “weather”? AirTran? Or me, for not just waiting to see if the flight might resume sooner than planned.

To AirTran’s credit, they refunded me in full and did so without question or hesitation. But in the end, it reminds me what a crap shoot airline travel has become.
